Roadkill

I am including some of my pages from my ‘Roadkill’ sketchbook but feel most of the pages are too graphic in nature because of my photographs of  decaying animals.

I conducted a lot of the photography along the roads around my home so it had a real impact on myself and family.

Making of the Roadkill Wallhanging

I researched and photographed .I wanted to produce a piece that made people feel at ease, then feel the discomfort of reality. I used my photographs and transferred them onto cotton fabric and I then embroidered the similar animals using 19th Century Nursery patterns as a source. It was to make the wallhanging very similar to a cot quilt, the embroidery a familiar element ( some observers almost disregarded the art piece then had to look twice, to take in, exactly what they were looking at). The photographs, the sad reality and then the shock of curiosity that most observers felt.

These Photographs show the development of the wallhanging and detail.
