Art and Drawing Course

I am always looking at ways to improve my art and this Summer came across a fantastic Art Course.‘The Secrets to Drawing Course’. It is an ideal way of improving or beginning to art, exploring  the different mediums, starting with the basics and developing skills. Easy to follow, lots of tips and also the reasons for doing certain marks or using certain mediums. Some of tips I also share with my students so it was nice to see Matt had included them in the techniques.

All via your computer or tablet, so its easy for us to stop and start and choose what we want to try each time. I had great fun gathering my equipment and ‘Going For It’. We all need to escape into our art and learn more each time, I certainly did. I love the playing!

The sessions cover the concepts of a technique, drawing, pen and ink, still life, using and image from a photo graph, wildlife, portraits and I was really impressed with the Pastel Session.

There are 5 hours of visual and inspirational tuition in 28 modules, accompanied by 26 ebooks with all the step by step and photos of ‘How To’.  The most complete short art course I have found and a must for skills. All for the cost of three of my sessions! So a real bargain.

Great News

Old Art Room Sign Swaffham

*Great News* The Old Art Room Has Moved to Swaffham

I will still be teaching out in the community as usual at certain times but this will be a permanent space to work, share, exhibit and enjoy. Lots of exciting events planned!

‘The Art Room’ is an Art Academy, so a mixture of leisure and certificated courses and workshop sessions available for all ages.

The doors open Monday 3rd of June and ‘Textile Tuesdays start on the 4th! Very exciting.

I start off the Textile Tuesday and Thursday this month with ‘Bags’ as they are as popular as ever.

Evening class on the 5th of June. 7pm until 9pm.

The second week is all about Embellishing, using the felting machines and ‘Bling’ you can sew on as Embellishments. There are four machines to share and lots of wonderful bits to experiment with.

There are two sessions to each Textile day as usual 10am until 12.15 and 12.30 until 2.45. The cost is £9 per session and includes a cup of tea and a biscuit. You bring your own ingredients/ project, enjoy the inspiration and there is supplies to purchase if you wish. There is also a very large scrap bag, well in my case a large aluminium box on wheels! To delve into to enhance your project or start a new one! Someone elses scrap bag is always more interesting somehow?

Lots to see and do each day so a visit is a must or if you are too far away visit regularly online to enjoy the atmosphere.

Monday afternoon from 2.30 until 5pm you can come along with your own project and enjoy working in a textile studio while I am working on my textile projects, mine are inspired by our Art Room visit to Kew Gardens and also Recycled Textiles and Stitch. I am there for tips and guidance only.

Starting at the end of the month June and continuing throughout the summer ‘Friday in Print‘ a way of exploring all different ways of printing and transposing designs. Also on request sketchbooks and book making.

Two sessions 10 until 12.15 and 12.30 until 2.45 and the cost is £10

Monday and Wednesdays I am still teaching City and Guilds and final projects and Design files are looking amazing.

We would like to thank the Benjamin Foundation and Cancer Care Moving on Project Dereham for their support in allowing us to teach and share their spaces since November 2012. It has really been appreciated and we have had a fantastic time.

When classes finished in June Stewart and I went down to Dorset to do some Art Camping at Guy Mallinson’s Crafty Camping. This was to celebrate our 25th Wedding Anniversary, ‘Glamping’ in a Yurt for five days and Stewart taking a ‘Pole Lathe Course’ in the woods with seven other course members and the food was wonderful. Myself, I spent three days enjoying taking in the woodland atmosphere by making art in a Bodger’s Shelter opposite a Trout Pond, full size tepee and Woodland Shelter. Magical**** Guy and his team made us so welcome and the holiday was something else. Glamping here is so special, including the tree four poster bed, the round window in the yurt roof, watching lightning storms while in bed! and the willow tree showers, something else. We did leave twice in the five days once for our Lobster Anniversary dinner and a ‘Fossil Walk’ along Lyme Regis beach with Brandon a Geologists who really made it easy to find fossils. I found a beauty. To see my sketchbook, and some of the atmosphere of our holiday click HERE

It is truly magical, the holiday and experience has had a lasting effect on our lives. We immediately felt rested, batteries recharged and inspired.

City and Guild Students 2012

City and Guilds 2012 Finished Work

City and Guilds Finished Work

Congratulations to the 18 students who completed their City and Guilds Level One Diploma in Patchwork and Quilting or Machine Embroidery with me @The Gallery Dereham.

I feel very proud of all the work they have done and textile journey they have travelled in just eight weeks. The eight weeks was a taster into different techniques, as a taster for the full City and Guilds. This Textile Diploma is worth 4 University Credits and is a lovely introduction into a full Certficate.

Every student made their textile samples and made them into a book. I feel as a tutor that making samples is important to learn techniques but by putting them into a fabric book it makes them into heirlooms and the book can be added to over the years.

See the newspaper articles in The Dereham Times

I as their Tutor have the task of assessing and marking all their wonderful work. Above you can see the students work laid out on my studio table. It is a busy time for me too as I am preparing for Norfolk Open Studios. My studio will be open from Saturday 26th of May 2012 until Sunday 10th June 2012, from 10.30-5pm.
